Dashboard - Export your Data automatically to Power BI

Tags

A dashboard is a graph that displays different types of data. Ermeo gives you the option of creating your own graphs to track the development of your assets using PowerBI .

Ermeo lets you collect data on the ground and analyse it using tools such as Power BI. Power BI is software that transforms data sources into interactive visual information. You can visualise and exploit data collected from Ermeo by creating your own dashboards.

1. How can you automatically export your data to Power BI?

Context

The aim is to retrieve the data collected from Ermeo and then display it in Power BI. In the images below, we're going to use data from a database called 'Antennas'.

We will first export the data we want to analyse into Power BI. In the example below, these data will be resources.

  • Step 1: Data selection

First of all, you need to select the resources you wish to analyse. You can select the database containing these resources from the Databases tab.

You can also select your resources by creating a filter in the Resource tree tab.

Then select the resources to be exported to Power BI.

Once you have made your selection, click on the export button and select Export to Power BI.

  • Step 2: Setting up the automatic export** Once the resources have been selected, we're going to set up the automatic export.

Once the resources have been selected, we will set up the automatic export.

An introductory window for exporting to Power BI appears. Click on Start.

Choose a name for your export. This will enable you to find your export in the list of exports.

If you have chosen to export a database, the attributes are selected automatically.

If the resources have been selected from the resource tree, the attributes must be chosen manually.

  • Step 3: API key generation

Once the export parameters have been defined, Ermeo generates an API key.

2.What is an API key?

The API key is a code generated by Ermeo that identifies you as a user. This key must be inserted in a URL link in the next step.

This step only appears the first time you carry out an automatic export to Power BI. You will be asked for the API key for each automatic export to Power BI that you perform. Click on Generate an API key. Copy and paste this link into your preferred text editor.

💡
Note The key you generate will no longer be shown to you. Make sure you save it. A file containing this key is also downloaded when you click Generate my API key. Accept the download if you are asked to do so.
  • Step 4: Generate the link to your automatic export** Once you have successfully registered your API key, click on "Next" to proceed to the final step.

Once you have registered your API key, click "Next" to move on to the last step. In this step, a link is generated. This link will allow you to automatically link your export from Ermeo to Power BI.

-Copy and paste this URL link into your favourite text editor.

-Replace the term {your_api_key} with your own API key generated in step 3. This will give you the link you need to insert into Power BI.

-In Power BI, go to the Home tab and click on Get Data. From the drop-down list, select Web. A window will open in which you can paste your link. Click on OK.

  • Step 5: Transforming the data in Power BI

To rename the table you have created, click on Transform data and rename the Power BI table you wish to create in the Name field of the Properties on the right of the window. Then click Close & Apply.

Once you've imported your data, you can start creating dashboards.

Don't worry, your data will be updated automatically every night. Just click on Refresh from time to time to update your data!

The number of automatic exports is limited to 10 by default. So don't hesitate to delete any automatic exports you no longer use. If you wish to increase this limit, please ask your Account Manager.

Resources created on your platform will also be visible in Power BI following this update.
